Records show a peak of 7% in the number of women involved in investing.

The amount of women participating in stock market investments increased by 7% in 2024, reaching a historic high of 1.381.426, according to a B3 survey. Despite this rise, women remain a minority in stock market investments.

Out of 5,259,178 investors, 3,877,095 are male (73.74%) and 1,381,269 are female (26.26%). The study also examines the investment preferences based on age, geographical location, and product variety.

The total number of investors in the Direct Treasury exceeded 1 million, reaching 1,049,097, showing a 15.04% increase from December 2023 to December 2024.

The rise in the number of women participating in B3 indicates an advancement in the overall financial literacy of the population. Studies indicate that women typically save and accumulate more funds before entering the investment realm, according to Christianne Bariquelli, B3’s Education superintendent.

Women between the ages of 25 and 39 top the list of variable income investors on B3, totaling 605,932 members. Review the breakdown by age groups.

  • Women aged from 0 to 17 years: 19.476
  • Women between the ages of 18 and 24: 84,094
  • Women between 25 and 39 years old: 605,932
  • 493,386 women aged 40 to 59 years.
  • Women who are 60 years old: 178,538

The total number of female investors in stocks increased from 744,364 to 1,381,426 in the past five years, a significant rise of 85.6% compared to December 2020.

Regional division

The Southeast and South regions are at the top of the list for female investors in stocks. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul rank highest in this category.

The number of investors in the state of São Paulo rose from 493,056 to 522,124, marking a 6% increase between December 2024 and the corresponding month in 2023.

In Rio de Janeiro, the number of women investors increased from 138,144 to 149,206, showing an 8% growth. Similarly, Minas Gerais saw a rise from 126,255 to 136,132, also marking an 8% increase.

In Paraná, the percentage increase was 7%, with 79,002 investors in December 2023 rising to 84,407 in the same period the next year. Similarly, in Rio Grande do Sul, there was a 7% growth, with the number of investors increasing from 67,023 to 71,593.

  • Northeastern region

Bahia has the highest number of female investors in the Northeast in variable income, followed by Pernambuco and Ceará.

  • Midwestern region

The Federal District in the Central-West region has the highest number of women investors, showing a 5.5% increase from December 2024 compared to the previous year. Goiás comes in second place with 35,341 women investing in variable income, marking a 6.5% growth in the same period.

Mato Grosso concluded 2024 with 16,988 investors and a growth rate of 8%, while Mato Grosso do Sul reported 13,842 investors and a growth rate of 7%.

  • Northern part

Amazonas experienced the greatest increase in the number of female investors, with a growth rate of 10.13% from December 2023 to December 2024, reaching a total of 11,736. Pará also saw a significant rise of 10.05%, making it the top region in the North with 19,210 female investors.
